SUMMARY:SEALL Presents Face The West
DESCRIPTION:Face The West are an Electro Celtic band from the Isle Of Lewis. The band started out in August 1998 rehearsing in reclaimed Harris Tweed mill buildings. Their first (and could have been last!) gig was at a very stormy village bonfire just outside of Stornoway. \n The members in Face The West have paid their dues and have a lifetimes worth of gigging experience. This lead them to be nominated for LIVE ACT OF THE YEAR at the 2009 Scottish Trad Awards. Seen performing at some of Scotland’s most prestigious festivals\, including the Hebridean Celtic Festival\, Tiree Music Festival\, Barrafest\, Orkney Folk Festival and multiple appearances at Glasgow’s winter festival in George Square to name a few. Face The West have also performed as far from home as Ho Chi Minh City\, Vietnam. \n After 5 years hiatus\, the band are back and are recording a new album. The best kept secret in modern celtic music. Face The West’s apparent enthusiasm and infectious spirit leaves each and every member of the audience buzzing. Not just a band but an intense experience.

SUMMARY:Staran
DESCRIPTION:Staran released their eponymous debut album in 2021. ‘Staran’\, meaning path\, trail or stepping stones in Gaelic\, reflects the themes of ‘places’ and ‘moments’ that run through their music. The result of this collaboration is a rich and cohesive sound; atmospheric and textural with acoustic instruments at the heart of it. \nFollowing on from performances at prestigious International festivals such as Celtic Colours in Cape Breton and Celtic Connections in Glasgow\, Staran are set to release their much anticipated second album in October 2025. \nComprising a group of established musicians in their own right\, this collective is a meeting of musical minds that traverses a diverse range of styles and backgrounds. While the overall sound is rooted in Scottish traditional music\, there are undoubtedly elements of inspiration from the genres of jazz\, minimalism and experimental electronica. \nThe band features Kim Carnie (vocals)\, John Lowrie (Piano)\, Innes White (Acoustic Guitar\, Electric Guitar)\, James Lindsay (Bass) and Jack Smedley (Fiddle).

SUMMARY:The Skye and Lochalsh Orchestra Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Open Day!\nSt Columba’s Church\, Portree\nSaturday 25 October 2025\n10.30am – 3pm\nIf you would like to attend\, please email us at\nenquiries@slo-skye.org.uk\nor phone Jo Headley on 07532328387.\nOn the programme\nBeethoven Allegretto from 7th Symphony\nJohn WIlliams Theme from Jurassic Park \nWelcome\nWe’re looking forward to coming to Portree on the 25th of October\, and hope that you’ll be able to join us. \nThe open day is for anyone who can read music\, who wants to see what it’s like to play with a small friendly orchestra and a very patient conductor. You might be learning an instrument\, or have learnt to play in the past. Everyone is welcome! This is a great opportunity to make music\, playing these 2 great pieces by Beethoven and John Williams. \nThe Timetable\nWe will start the day at 10.30am\, setting up stands and music\, and having a cup of tea or coffee. The music starts at 11 am\, with a break at 12.30pm for the lunch which members of the orchestra will provide. At about 2.30pm we will have a short break\, then play through what we have learnt\, as if we were giving a concert. Your friends and family are very welcome to come along and listen. \nThe Music\nWe will be printing out the music\, but can also email your part for the Beethoven before the day\, if you want to try it out beforehand. If you have concerns that the music is too difficult\, do let us know\, as we can probably simplify it. (Some of us do that anyway!) If you have a music stand\, please bring it along\, but don’t worry if you haven’t. \nThe Venue\nSt Columba’s Church has about 8 – 10 parking spaces\, so these will be reserved for those with heavy instruments or mobility issues. Please let us know if you need one of these spaces. There is free parking further down the road at the Community Hall. If you’re able to car share\, that would be great! \nRefreshments\nAs we are providing lunch\, please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. The earlier we know\, the easier it will be for us to cater for you. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:OVER / AT Presents : Ailie Ormston in partnership with SEALL
DESCRIPTION:OVER / AT is pleased to present a brand new work by composer/performer Ailie Ormston on a tour of halls in the North/West of Scotland. This event is presented in partnership with SEALL Events Skye. \n In September of this year\, OVER / AT CIC will embark on its most ambitious tour to date with artist-composer Ailie Ormston. Ormston will perform a new composition live across intimate venues in the North West Highlands and Islands of Scotland. \n On the 5th of September\, Ormston will be performing at Kirkton Hall in Kyle of Lochalsh. This is a cosy church hall venue with a lot of spirit. We’ll be opening doors at 19:00 with an aim to get started by 19:30 and finish up around 21:30 so you still have time to get home or meet at the pub after. Tickets are £15.00 or contact us for PWYC*. If you’re able to rideshare\, please do! \n We hope to bring about new connections through music between performers\, audiences\, and places. \n During the tour\, Ormston will present a new set of work specifically commissioned for this setting. Ormston will perform new music written for a self-contained arrangement of electric guitar and tape(s). Within limited parameters\, Ormston has devised routes to explore the scope of this minimal set up by playing with small object interventions\, additional speakers\, spatiality within the instrumental voices\, as well as developing motivic and static melodic lines of music. This all serves the goal of making music specifically for unusual venues. \n OVER / AT CIC is a trans\, non-binary\, and otherwise gender-diverse music-making world. Since then\, we have commissioned new work\, and hosted performances and workshops both online and around Scotland. \n Ailie Ormston is a composer and musician from Aberdeen who makes electronic music as well as music for ensembles that experiments with timbral abstraction\, temporality\, assemblage and improvisation. They now reside in Glasgow. Over the years\, Ormston has received commissions from Counterflows (2018\, 2021\, 2024)\, Tectonics (2022)\, Cryptic (2022) and the Barbican (2024). They have worked collaboratively with Tim Fraser on It Changes (bison; 2022) and Finlay Clark on Sunflowers Face The Sun (33-33; 2020)\, as well as two solo releases; The Sedate/Tony Soprano Fashion Inspo. (50% PURE; 2018) and most recently Frames that lean\, pictures that roam (Akashic Records; 2025). Ormston’s work has been featured and reviewed in publications such as The Wire and Loud & Quiet with broadcasts across online and digital radios. They are currently writing a string quartet for New York’s JACK Quartet as part of their JACK Studio programme to be premiered in Spring 2026. \n This tour has been made possible by funding from Creative Scotland’s National Lottery Open Fund for Organisations and support from the Hinrichsen Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Rachel Sermanni is a Scottish based singer/songwriter that makes the mundane moments mystical: shock-positive pregnancy tests in train-station toilets\, coffee machine breakages\, cold river swims\, the regret of not saying ‘I love You’\, the moon & how it pulls\, bare feet on wood floors\, the soft glow of a house plant\, ‘what even is consciousness?’\, strange dreams lingering in quiet mornings…

SUMMARY:SEALL Presents Joshua Burnside
DESCRIPTION:Joshua Burnside is an experimental folk songwriter\, singer and producer. He takes influence from alternative electronica and Irish folk\, chopping and blending them with a mixture of found sounds\, world music and unorthodox production methods. Following an award-winning debut album and an acclaimed follow-up released during the height of the global pandemic\, his music lives against the grain\, in both style and spirit. Raised in the north of Ireland between the lush drumlins and hills of Strangford Lough\, and the narrow entries and alleyways of East Belfast\, Joshua’s music has defined and defied the post-conflict society of his home.

SUMMARY:SKYE BRIDGE SESSIONS - Laura Silverstone
DESCRIPTION:From the Basque Lands to the Scottish Highlands\, and wherever the wind blows\, Laura Silverstone has spent her life perfecting the art of traveling and entertaining. \nCarefully weaving songs and landscapes together\, she has developed a live show that transports her audiences around the world\, from tropical rainforests to motorway service stations alike. But the stories and exotic destinations are by no means the only takeaway from watching her live performance. Katerina Visionaria In 2023\, her distinctive percussive lap guitar playing caught the attention of the Spanish franchise of the popular TV show Britain’s Got Talent\, where she wowed the judges and was given the prestigious Golden Buzzer. \nSilverstone ended up making it all the way through the live grand finals before narrowly missing out on the top prize. \nThis exposure introduced her to a whole new worldwide audience—an opportunity she didn’t watch go by. In 2024\, she crowdfunded her second studio album\, Heartwood\, and self-released it in July ’24 to great critical acclaim. \nThe release received over 20\,000 Spotify streams in its first week and was featured in multiple international radio stations and podcasts\, such as BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal (Scotland)\, Good Stuff In Between podcast (Scotland)\, and live interviews on Radio Skye (Scotland) and Cadena Ser (Spain). Her self-booked tour\, Heartwood\, took her around the world\, from opening for Steph Strings (AUS) to collaborating live with Skinny Living (UK) and Kim Churchill (AUS)\, all in 2024. \nAnother collaboration worth mentioning is her live performance with Glen Hansard in Berlin in 2019. The Heartwood Tour sold hundreds of tickets across the UK\, Europe\, Australia\, and saw her debut in the US. In 2025 she has already performed at DKOS at Celtic Connections\, being awarded “Highly Recommended Act” by the festival’s panel. This year\, Silverstone will also be performing at HebCelt festival (Lewis)\, Kelburn Garden Party (Largs)\, Endless Summer (Glasgow) and Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings VIII (Edinburgh). With influences such as Newton Faulkner\, Ben Howard\, John Butler and Alanis Morissette\, Laura Silverstone combines modern folk textures with rock\, soul\, jazz\, and anything else at hand\, creating her own distinct musical blend. This\, together with the force of her soulful vocals and powerful stage presence\, has made her a must-see live act

SUMMARY:Seall presents Kathryn Joseph
DESCRIPTION:Known for her fearless storytelling\, raw emotional depth\, and unflinching honesty\, Kathryn Joseph has made a lasting mark on contemporary music. A relentless pursuit of truth runs through each of her albums\, from the devastating beauty of bones you have thrown me and blood i’ ve spilled (2015)\, which won the Scottish Album of the Year Award\, to the grief-stricken intensity of from when i wake the want is (2018)\, and the haunting for you who are the wronged (2022)\, a powerful reckoning with abuse in all its forms.

SUMMARY:SEALL Presents Sian
DESCRIPTION:Mix of Unreserved Seating and Standing – PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY IF YOU REQUIRE A SEAT \nOriginally brought together by the Blas festival in 2016\, to celebrate the work of female bards\, Sian comprises three of today’s most exquisitely gifted young Gaelic singers – Ceitlin Lilidh\, Eilidh Cormack and Ellen MacDonald –accompanied by in-demand multi-instrumentalist (and fellow Gaelic speaker) Innes White. With direct connections among the singers to Lewis\, Skye and North Uist\, their arrangements match deep feeling for tradition with stunning\, boldly imaginative harmony work\, which has seen them likened to The Staves and even Crosby\, Stills\, Nash and Young. Their self-titled debut album\, produced by Donald Shaw\, was released in 2020. \n“At once both ancient and modern\, and never less than remarkable.”\n-The National
